Settling Into the Rhythm

Group of Jersey cows drinking from a blue water trough.

Well, here we are.

The name has changed, everyone is getting used to saying Mine Creek Farmstead, and things are starting to feel a little more like business as usual around here — cows, calves, milk, weather, and whatever else the day decides to throw at us.

It has been HOT lately. We're more than ready for this heat wave to break this week, and we're praying for some rain while we're at it. It's been months since we've had a good rain, and the farm is showing it. Dust everywhere, butterflies everywhere, and giant grasshoppers seemingly taking over the place. The days are getting shorter, though, so hopefully fall isn't too far behind.

The calves are all growing like weeds. Nicki is doing awesome, and Georgie, Comet and Mr. Pibb are growing into a fine little beef herd. Casey is due September 20 and is bred to Angus, so our beef herd will be growing again soon.

Speaking of beef, we'll be culling one of our older girls later this month, which means we'll have some Jersey ground beef available. If you'd be interested in purchasing some, fill out the form below and we'll put you on the list.

And before anyone starts thinking we've suddenly become a beef farm... don't worry. We're still very much a dairy. 😉

Milk is still the heart of what we do, and our supply is improving with each additional calf. It will continue to be a little tight for a while, so if you can, please get your orders in a few days early. It helps us plan and gives you the best chance of getting what you need.

We've also started a Mine Creek Farmstead group on Facebook! It's a place for our customers to connect, swap recipes and local-shopping tips, ask questions, and find others interested in setting up milk pickup co-ops.

That's about it from the farm this week. We're taking care of cows, watching calves grow, keeping everyone cool, and waiting very patiently for some rain and a little taste of fall.
